Teppotsavam is boat festival held at Ghati Subrahmanya Temple. The processional deity of Lord Subrahmanya in various guises seated on a boat takes ride in the holy waters. Also known as ‘Boat Festival’ or ‘Float Festival’, it is one of the important annual festivals being performed in Ghati Subrahmanya Temple. It is celebrated for five consecutive days in the evenings at around 6pm with religious fervor. The processional deities are taken in a boat (Teppam), in the temple tank, together with chanting of hymns and the playing of nadaswarams.
5.Champa Shashti:
Celebrated on Margashira Maasa Shuddha Shashti day in the month of November.Champa Shasthi is a festival observed on the sixth day during the waxing phase of moon in the Margasheersh month. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The day is of great significance in Ghati Subrahmanya Temple.
In Champa Shasthi festival, Lord Shiva is known as Martand or Malhari or Khandoba or Kanderao. It is believed that he took the form of Martand and Malhari to kill demons Mani and Malla.Legend has it that Lord Shiva fought Mani and Malla for six days and defeated them on the Champa Sashti day. After the battle with the demons, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a Swayambhu lingam at Khandoba Temple
6.Kumara Shashti:
Celebrated on Maagha Maasa Shuddha Shashti day in the month of Jan-Feb Kumar Sashti also known as ‘Skanda Sashti’ is an important Hindu festival that is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, who is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Subramanya is worshipped by different names like ‘Kumar’, ‘Muruga’, ‘Kartikeya’ and therefore the name ‘Kumar Sashti’. Kumar Sashti is observed on the ‘sashti’ (6th day) during the Shukla Paksha (the bright fortnight of moon) in the month of ‘Ashadh’ in the Hindu calendar. As per the Hindu legends it is believed that on this auspicious day, Lord Kartikeya appeared on Earth to defeat the demon named, ‘Adharma’. From them onwards, this day is celebrated as Kumar Sashti and Lord Kartikeya is worshipped with complete devotion and affection.
